Avsnitt 10: Vreni Michelini Castillo

Meet the transdisciplinary cultural producer, artist, musician, curator and educator Vreni Michelini Castillo/Chhotimaa. Vreni was born in Guanajuato, México and grew up in Mexico City in the 90s. She is now based in Huichin, Ohlone land in Oakland in California.

Her current research focuses on petroglyphs, amoxtlis, mycology, intersectionality and hip hop ecofemmenism. Vreni Michelini Castillo is also knows as Chhotimaa when doing music – and she is co-editor of the amazing anthology COLOR THEORY. COLOR THEORY brings together womxn and gender non-conforming working artists of color from four generations to explore the intersections of race, gender, class and labor in and around art institutions.

Edited by Maya Gomez and Vreni Michelini Castillo, these reflections, stories, and remedies (through essay, image, and poetry) engage a multidisciplinary and intergenerational dialogue around ethical aesthetics, systemic oppression, and the ritual landscape. More than a simple indictment (though indict it, unabashedly, does), COLOR THEORY is a must-read collection of communal solidarity, critical resistance and creative healing.
